IKO Certification

  1. Every Instructor follows a 5-day ITC training course, during which the Examiner evaluates his technical, communication, and human skills
  2. At the end of the course, the Candidate takes a written test and must pass the exam with a minimum score of 70%
  3. Candidates that fail the test or are not validated for any other reason must do shadowing for a period determined by the Examiner, which must be completed within a maximum of 6 months from his or her training date. If shadowing is not completed within 6 months, the candidate needs to be re-examined by an Examiner
  4. Shadowing means that the Candidate Instructor teaches under the supervision of an IKO Instructor Level 2 (or higher) for the amount of time determined at the end of the ITC
  5. Once the shadowing is completed, the supervising Instructor fills out the Evaluation Form and the Candidate sends it back to the Examiner and then to IKO to become certified

An IKO instructor level 1 is qualified to:

  1. Teach kiteboarding to a maximum ratio of 2 students with 1 kite flying simultaneously according to the IKO standards
  2. Certify students with the IKO Member Card
  3. Become a Powerkite Instructor by taking the online equivalency course
  4. Earn equivalency as a Level 1 Kiteboard/Snow Instructor by enrolling in an IEC course
